Other ways to access housing
We understand that finding suitable housing can be challenging, and social housing is not always the quickest or most appropriate option for everyone. Depending on your circumstances, you may wish to consider some of the alternative housing options available such as private lets, renting a room and flat sharing alternatives.
Social Landlords
We would recommend that applicants apply to various social landlords as there can be multiple housing associations in one area of the city. In the Drumchapel area, there are 5 local landlords. Surrounding areas could be Yoker, Knightswood, Maryhill, Clydebank and Dalmuir.
Mutual Exchange
If you currently rent a social home and would like to move, a mutual exchange could be an option. A mutual exchange allows you to swap homes with another social housing tenant, subject to approval from both landlords.
We maintain a list of tenants who are interested in a mutual exchange. You can view the current opportunities on the mutual exchange section of our website.
Mid-Market Rent
Mid-market rent homes are properties where the rent is generally lower than the private rented sector. These properties are designed for people on low to moderate incomes who may not be able to afford home ownership but have limited access to social housing.
Shared ownership and home ownership
If you are looking to buy a home, there may be schemes available to help make home ownership more affordable. It is worth seeking independent financial advice to explore what options may be suitable for your circumstances.
Housing options
If you are unsure which housing option is right for you, independent advice is available to help you explore your choices.
Glasgow City Council's Housing Options service offers free information and advice to help people understand their housing choices. Whether you are looking for a new home, facing housing difficulties, or simply want to explore the options available, their website provides a wealth of helpful information and guidance.
